NLB Video is missing

Q & ACategory: OthersNLB Video is missing

Hi Faisal,

CLB and ALB Labs are there but NLB is missing. I see you wrote a comment saying NLB is same as ALB but when I tried I am not able to succeed. I am unable to see the Existing TGs under NLB even after creating TGs with by registering the Instance.
Request you to make a video of NLB so that it would be beneficial to us.

Thank you
Sai Kumar

• Accessing port 90 other than 80 is a problem. I changed the httpd.conf listener to 90 and tried to access the like this http://domain-or-dns-name:90.

• So, if you type :90, it will just not give you anything because there is no application running on that port. So, instead of testing this with an http application, you should test an application that works on a different port by default. For example, server control panels like Webmin work on port 10000 and port 20000 and cPanel works on port 2087/2083/2096 etc.
How to configure these sort of Apps ?

I will be adding the NLB video in the next update soon. For now, let me try to help you work through the current issue you are facing.

Yes, you are right. Since NLB works only with ports on L4, unlike the ALB you cannot have different rules for different applications on the same ports. So, ideally speaking if you want to test out the other ports, you should have another application that is working on a different port number. For something like webmin, you just need to install it and finish the configuration. It is by default setup on port 10000 and 20000, you can of course change this during setup. You then need to ensure that these same ports have been configured in NLB to route to the TG that has the instances running webmin.

What you did with apache there was the correct idea, but I guess there is some additional changes that you have to make other than just changing the listening port to 90 (eg: changing the ports on virtual hosts file). Also, ensure that the new port you use is not used for any other service. A more appropriate option would be to change apache to listen on port 8080 and you can have this instance in a second TG and test the ports 80 & 8080 in NLB.

Please post any replies to this in the comments of this answer and will try to reach a workable solution with this.
